About APEX GRAPPLING VACAVILLE
APEX Grappling is the only dedicated No-Gi Jiu Jitsu and submission grappling academy in Solano County. Located in the heart of Vacaville, we provide high-quality, principle-based martial arts instruction for youth and adults of all experience levels. Our mission is to create a training environment that is challenging, inclusive, and focused on long-term development—both on and off the mat.
What sets APEX apart is our commitment to using the Constraint-Led Approach, a modern, research-backed method of learning that prioritizes adaptability, self-organization, and real-time decision making. Instead of relying on rigid patterns or overly scripted techniques, we help students build functional skills through live resistance and movement problem-solving. This makes our program ideal for anyone looking to build true competence in No-Gi Jiu Jitsu, submission grappling, and wrestling—whether for fitness, self-defense, or competition.
At APEX, we’re also passionate about growing diversity on the mats. We actively encourage more women and students of all ages to experience the benefits of live-resistance grappling. Our gym is a space where everyone—regardless of size, age, or skill level—can develop strength, confidence, and practical self-defense in a supportive and high-level environment.

Nicholas Hernandez
Coach Nick and his family have been part of the Vacaville community since 2009. He is a U.S. Air Force veteran with a deep passion for health and physical fitness.
He began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2018 and instantly fell in love with the sport. He has attended seminars and trained at multiple gyms throughout California. He has trained and coached under Professor Cleidson Ramos of Apex BJJ Academy Vacaville since 2020.
Coach Nick now hopes to bring his love of submission grappling, no-gi Jiu Jitsu, and wrestling to Vacaville. His goal is to promote fun and engagement amongst students looking to gain skills and confidence through grappling sports.
His specialized training style focuses on principle-based learning techniques and the Constraints-Led Approach -- a unique training methodology used to develop more adaptable athletes who can compete at a higher level with a reduced risk of injuries. These training methods allow the athlete’s skill acquisition to develop through ecological framework focused on variability, adaptability, and self-organization.
